A wise person once declared, “the more the words, the less the meaning.” I’m in agreement with this statement, and is my general opinion of our so called age of communication. Everybody is saying so much, but everyone is also saying so very little.

Everyone seems to be clammoring for our attention, attempting to be surprising and bold, but never truly offering anything significant to fill our lives. I worry a lot over the generation to come. Without healthy times of solitude, alone with their own thoughts, how will the generation to come ever expect to gain the wisdom that can only come through healthy thoughtful quietude?

It’s true to say that this is not the only way that wisdom is acquired, that much wisdom is experiential wisdom found simply through living. But thoughtful solitude is one of the best methods somebody can find a clear perspective and direction, and to figure out just where they fit in this grand scheme of life.

That’s why I, even though a 20 something year old, don’t subscribe to any of the gateways of mass communication out there. I like being free, not ever connected and telling everyone all of the minute details of how I live my daily life. I like not being in the know on what’s happening. I like shutting off the valve of mass clammoring and having the ability to slip off to somewhere quiet and think about life. You should give it a try sometime.
