Following on from the ATC2K and ATC3K helmet cameras, both of which proved extremely popular among serious sports enthusiasts, Oregon Scientific have made a few ‘tweaks’ and are proud to introduce the new ATC5K Action Cam. Like its precursors, this is a nifty piece of kit designed to enable extreme sport enthusiasts, whatever their sport, to record their exploits digitally and download the results to PC, MAC or television. The ATC5K Camera is pretty tough, with a rubberised case which is both waterproof and heavy-duty. As a result it’s suitable for use in a number of extreme situations, from white-water rafting to mountain biking and snowboarding.
A range of mounting grips and straps are included to enable users to attach the camera to pretty much anything they wish, including helmets, handlebars and other sporting equipment. Also included is a head strap made from flexible and adjustable silicon, suction mounts for polished surfaces, and the unit even doubles as a webcam thanks to the mini tripod which comes with the package. Capable of recording for in excess of two hours to a 4GB SD card, the ATC 5K Helmet Cam offers ample recording time. This unit is deceptively small and neat, given its durability, at 11cm long and a paltry 260g in weight. The ATC 5K Camera is incredibly simple to use, offering one-touch recording and effortless download. The ATC5K Camera offers a number of new facilities which were not available in previous models.
Gone is the drab black exterior casing, replaced by a hardwearing rubber and plastic cover in funky metallic blue. The ATC5K now also doubles as a regular camera and, thanks to its new wide angle lens, you can now take high quality still photos in addition to the usual film option. Most impressive, though, are the introduction of an infrared remote control facility, offering a truly hands free experience; and the addition of a 1.5” LCD screen, offering instant preview and playback as well as effortless positioning of the camera for optimum filming. Whether filming in high or low resolution, or somewhere in the middle, you can expect at least 5 hours of battery life from the high-power Li-Ion batteries supplied with the ATC5K. This is a great camera which will provide hours of fun and reliability, whatever – and wherever – your preferred activity.
