With the many advancements in embroidery technology and computer graphics, creating your own custom embroidered patches is something that a lot more people are doing these days. Once the customer has designed their custom patch, it will be created by the patch manufacturer and then shipped directly to the customer. It couldn’t be easier. As for the patch collector, this reality presents an even more interesting opportunity in terms of creating custom patches that will generate demand.
When it comes to collections of any type, what is the main objective of the collector? The aim is to find the most beautiful and rarest item in the category that you collect. There is no difference when it comes to embroidered patches. So imagine what it would be like if you could create your own custom patches for particular events and only create a limited number of them. Truth be known, it’s very possible to do successfully if you approach it the right way.
Design Is Everything
Patch collecting is as much about the beauty and artwork as it is about the event a patch is commemorating or the symbolism it represents. There are many reasons to create custom patches; it could be that you want to commemorate a specific event that is coming up in 2012 or it could be that you want to make a statement about something you believe in. Regardless of the purpose of the patch, it won’t be collectible unless the design is attractive. So in order to get others interested in your patch, you will have to make sure that the person who designs them is good at his or her job.
This means that the person designing the patch needs to be someone who can take an idea and transfer this idea to the patch. The three main objectives of embroidered patches are the shape, color and detail. It is important that patches will reach out and grab the attention of customers when they are browsing. If a patch does not stand out then it is very unlikely that it will generate much in the way of sales.
Don’t Have Too Many of the Same Patch
It is also important to think about limited numbers of custom patches if you want to generate more interest. Now by ‘limited number’, we don’t actually mean creating a dozen or less of these patches. You will not be able to create enough demand if your numbers are that small. But you could find that just having a few hundred will work very well. Order them two or three dozen at a time and start selling them at cost. All you have to do is have a good design and make sure you market them properly and then you can be sure of creating a good design. The value will then increase.
It is probably a good idea to commemorate events that are limited when you are going to be using limited numbers. If you think about the 2012 presidential elections then this is perfect as this is an event that only comes round every four years. Creating embroidered patches that endorse or slam specific candidates is a great idea that will generate sales in the short term and collectible value in the long term.
