Gambling is a concept that I sometimes find hard to grasp. Spending one pound each week on the lottery can be great fun, and relatively inexpensive as well, although odds are really not on your side, you don’t really lose all that much. You need to try and work out, when you have crossed or about to cross a line with gambling your money. Do people really understand how gambling works and how the casinos don’t work in their favour?
Gambling is where you use your own money in the risk of gaining something higher than the value of what you placed, back. This is where the gambling factor comes in, here is a simple example of gambling at the races (a bit different to the casino, but the same principle):
If you were to place $10 on a horse that has the odds; 10:1 then for every $10 you put down on this horse, you would receive $100 back if the horse one. The 1 represents your bet and the 10 represents what the likelihood of that horse winning is, and how much you will receive in winnings. It is simple, working as a multiplier, it will times your bet by ten when you win, and get that ten times return, plus your stake.
This can be a very confusing concept, so lets try to look at some of these deciding factors in more detail. In the casino there are so many different types of gambling that you can lose track of how much you should put down for different games. Don’t ever forget while you are there, that Casinos are not friends. They may treat you very well, but there is a very good reason for this. They want your money, and they will do as much as they can to get it. They can even offer you a free room or some extra special luxuries like drinks.
All in all they are the winners, they never lose. Although you could win quite a few times, the casino will always win most of the time. Think about it, if we always won, then the casinos would be well out of business. Making yourself stop gambling when you hit a high point is the most difficult part, and on the other hand stopping when you have lost a lot is even more difficult. It is important to remember that you are spending money, which means that you need to make sure you know how to play the games. Make sure that you give yourself a specific budget. Try not to spend your winnings, put them to one side!
